Class Description:

By understanding light and shadow families, and how correct values can be established for each family, colour becomes easy to mix for a beautifully balanced painting.  It’s seldom the colours that do not work in a painting but rather the values.  This class offers and teaches several useful techniques used by many of the well-known and successful painters of landscape and other genre.

  • Black pen – thick wedge type

  • Lots of photos with definite light and shadow areas in them!!!
  • 5 or 6   canvases approx. 11″ x 14″  (dollar store variety fine  – 2 or 3 for exercises and 1 or 2 will be for a finished piece) (just not too big or too small).

For the Love of Colour – Art Show/Sale

South Surrey White Rock Art Society

‘For the Love of Colour’ Art Show/ Sale June 1 & 2

Turnbull Gallery @ the South Surrey Recreation & Arts Centre
14601 20th Avenue
Sat 9:30 am – 4:30 pm & Sunday 10 am – 4 pm

For 60 years the South Surrey White Rock Art Society has supported the growth of local artists which includes both accomplished and emerging artists. Their best works will be on display for you to enjoy & buy. There also will be demos. They are looking forward to meeting all of you!

Descriptions from a few of our exhibitors; Sandy Gagnon, a children’s book illustrator captivates children with her whimsical art…. Norm Carriere loves the relaxed romantic pose of the subject of his recent painting, it was a must do once he saw her.… June Bloye, a jewellery designer, is amazed by the culture of Arizona and its conglomerate stone (turquoise /malachite) which inspires her many stunning creations…. Caroline Baasch paints subjects that take her to her happy place. African flowers do just that…. Dianne Cuzner says paintings are an expression of who we are and engages in the exploration of many subjects and mediums…. Veronica Newell is so inspired by art she recently wrote a poem that accompanies her beautiful crow painting.

“They ask me why I paint the birds,
And I don’t always have the words.
They say the crows are mean,
And that seagulls make a scene.
But they’re nature and they’re real,
And they simply do what they feel.
They move with the breeze,
Over forests and seas.
So to see why I paint what I love,
Just stop and look above.”
