The winners of the FINE ART CHALLENGE were announced
The quality of the paintings entered into our March painting
challenge was excellent. The subject was ‘Food’ and
the varied interpretations made it very hard to choose
only three and as it turned out there was a tie for third
First place went to Catherine Brown, Li Boesen was
second and Veronica Davies and Catherine Robertson
tied for third. Very well done ladies!
Our next painting challenge will be
for May. As it will be Canada’s 150th
Birthday you are challenged to create
an artwork in keeping with this

In the newsletter you will find an art show registration form along with a reminder of the rules and requirements for the show. You can also apply on line under forms - Art Show Application and pay by PayPal, Please read the latter carefully and make sure your artwork follows the guidelines.
The deadline for registration is Monday, April 11th
The fee is $10 for a maximum of three pieces. There will be a maximum of 200 artworks in the show so make sure you register early.
Shows as successful as ours don’t produce themselves so please tick a time slot box on the form denoting when you can help. Our Art Show Coordinator, Pat Vickers, will notify you at a later date as to which job you have been assigned.
Everyone is asked to bring some wrapped candy .
The Grand Opening of the new South Surrey Arts and Recreation Centre has been rescheduled to Saturday May 10th. Come and join in the festivities! There will be original art on display as well as live music, dancing, face painting, demonstrations
and unveiling of the public art which will the exterior of the building. SSWRAS has special activities taking place in the visual arts room. Be sure to check us out! The construction of the building is still on track for substantial completion by the end of February. Move-in will be scheduled during March and new programs will start in April. submitted by Sandra Wagstaff

This is a family event with music, entertainment, art and pottery activities for all.
BC Culture Days Provincial Launch

Presented in partnership with the City of Surrey, Surrey Arts Centre, Surrey Art Gallery, and Surrey Libraries, the BC Culture Days provincial launch will take place on September 25, 2014 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Surrey City Hall, Centre Stage. Everyone is invited to join in this free public community celebration featuring:
- Christopher Gaze, Artistic Director of Bard on the Beach as emcee;
- Performances by Country singer, Lisa Brokop, Spirit of the West's John Mann, Surrey City Orchestra Brass Ensemble, Praise TEAM (hip hop dance troupe),and Heritage Re-enactors;
- A cultural forecastby CTV's Marke Driesschen;

In May 2014 The South Surrey Recreation and Art Centre Expansion was opening. South Surrey & White Rock Art Society played a big part in making it happen!
