“FROM SOUP TO NUTS” IN ACRYLICS
with Georgina Johnstone
February 20th to March 26th, 2020

Six techniques/rules to keep in your painting pocket ready to bring out when you need them. Beginners welcome.

Over the six weeks of this course I’ll be sharing with you some techniques and tips that will help you create paintings you love. Each week I’ll demonstrate a particular technique or rule. After the demo each student will get to work on the technique on their own canvas (see Supply List for details) for the first part of the class. I’ll be on hand for one on one help if needed.

If they wish, participants may also bring in a painting from home to work on for the rest of the class time. Again, I will be available to give my two-cent’s worth if asked.
Each class will also contain a generous sprinkling of fun!

Schedule of Classes
February 20 Painting Skies
February 27 Painting Water
March 05 Painting Rocks
March 12 Painting Trees
March 19 Using Atmospheric Perspective
March 26 Using One & Two Point Perspective

Supply List
Acrylic paints
Bring the colours you like to use.

Palette
This should be large! The smaller your palette the more restricted you will feel. I recommend the large Mas- terson Stay-Wet palette (no, I’m not being paid to mention this). I think it’s an investment in your artistic jour- ney.

Water Container
Again large! You need to have plenty of water on hand when painting with acrylics. Old Tupperware contain- ers (square or round, make sure they’re deep) can be found at thrift stores, or plastic ones are available at dollar stores. Little yoghurt containers won’t do. I use empty rectangular dish-washer tablet containers or large rectangular yoghurt containers.

Brushes
Bring your usual brushes but make sure you have some large ones. You’ll need these for some of the tech- niques. Man-made fibre brushes (shiny and smooth bristles) are the best to use with acrylics.

Extras
Paper towel or blue shop towel (available at Canadian Tire and Home Depot). I prefer shop towel as it is stronger. Water spritzer—you will need to spray your acrylic paints occasionally to keep them moist.

Canvas
To work on the techniques that I demonstrate you will need a canvas or canvas board for each class. Ideally no smaller than 16” x 20” to give you enough room to really explore the technique.
