News Flash! South Surrey Recreation and Art Centre
Construction to expand the South Surrey Recreation Centre to include much needed space for the arts in the south Surrey area has been moving along well. The space will include a multi-purpose room, a visual arts studio and a pottery studio.
For the South Surrey and White Rock Art Society it means we will have a home base at last. Over the past 54 years as our society has grown we have been challenged to find new places to meet and to hold art shows and workshops. Now the multi-purpose room will be our meeting place and the visual arts studio will ours to use every Thursday. We also have 13 days a year to use the multi-purpose room for art shows and workshops. Many of us have also been looking forward to the day when we won’t have to move our display easels to and from a storage locker for our art shows. The Art Centre includes a storage room created especially for our easels. No more aching backs!
Members can be justifiably proud of the $250,000 contribution the Society gave the City of Surrey towards construction of the Art Centre. The hard work, dedication and foresight of members past and present to raise these funds cannot be overstated. It’s a marvelous legacy that will serve residents on the Semiahmoo peninsula for many years to come.
