‘Abstract Painting’
Five Sessions, 2 1/2 hours each,
Class Dates: June 1, 8, 15, 22,29, 2017
Time: 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Please arrive at 6:15 to help to set up the studio
You are expected to help set up and clean up the studio
Open to 15 Members Only

Learn a very useful method & process for designing and executing abstract paintings and how this method can be used to compose representational paintings. Some experience in either medium is needed. The instructor will demonstrate and provide handouts. The demos will be put up on his website for reviewing later.

Supplies:
Watercolour: One large sheet arches watercolour paper cut into quarters; One piece of flat material to tape the individual sheets onto (plexi, hardboard or corroplast best); 4 Paint colours (in order of preference): ONE RED (alizarin or rose madder or quinacridone or cadmium red medium), ONE YELLOW (cad yellow medium or lemon yellow or hansa), ONE BLUE (ultramarine or cobalt), ONE dark GREEN (viridian or phthalo); 2 Brushes: one flat for wash shapes ¾” to 1” ; one point for details (also called a round) #6 or #8; One roll of paper towel; Pencil HB, paper for notes; One small natural sponge; a palette with large wash compartments (even several large flat white Styrofoam plates will work also); A small ‘spritzer’ fine spray bottle; Large yogurt container for water
Acrylic: 2 Brushes: one flat for shapes ¾” to 1”; one point (also called a round) for details #6 or #8; 6 Paint colours (in order of preference): ONE RED (alizarin or rose madder or quinacridone or cadmium red medium), ONE YELLOW (cad yellow medium or lemon yellow or hansa), ONE BLUE (ultramarine or cobalt), ONE GREEN (viridian or phthalo), ONE BLACK (small tube), ONE WHITE (titanium only); One roll of paper towel. Opened-out garbage bag for drop sheet. Pencil HB; a palette with large wash compartments (even several large flat white Styrofoam plates will work also); a small spritzer fine spray bottle; One bottle of matte acrylic medium (gloss is OK also); Two canvasses 16 x 20 (or your preference); Large yogurt container for water.

Thursday evening classes are NOT run on a drop-in basis. Those that sign up for these classes are expected to attend each of the nights the class is offered. Once you have signed up please make note of the class(es) you have signed up for. A reminder email will go out in advance of the class BUT please be sure to make note of all classes you sign up for.

If, after you have signed up for the classes you find that you can not attend please notify the workshop chair as soon as possible so that someone on the waitlist or another member can take advantage of this wonderful learning opportunity offered to the SSWR Art Society members.
